What is fair retail price for Colt .45 ACP with serial # 6699?
Colt .45 ACP; has two 7 shot clips; slide and grips are model 1911A1 and so are newer; U.S. Ordinance inspector mark signifies: "Major Walter G. Penfield" Mfg. from 1912-1923.
I recognize there are a lot of variables.
My source says the gun was made in 1912 by Colt USN.
Values for original 98%+ M1911 Military Models have risen considerably in recent years, and as a result, values for original mint guns can double and even sometimes triple the values of 98% condition.
Over 2,550,000 M1911 pistols were ordered for WWI and WWII by the U.S. Government, but approx. 650,000 were mfg. between 1911-1925. Those pistols with a parkerized finish will indicate post-WWI reworking, usually marked with an arsenal code (ie. AA-Augusta Arsenal, SA-Springfield Arsenal, etc.) These reworks do no have the same value as original, unaltered specimens and prices generally are in the $350-$625 range.
Colt Mfg. Model 1911 Military - right side of slide marked "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" blue finish only (NOT parkerized unless reworked).
Recent sales for original mint examples of the Model 1911 Military are as follows: $8300-$13,500 for 1912 mfg., depending on the variation (there are three), $6750 for 1913 mfg., $5500 for 1914-1917 mfg. (black army finish), and $6800 for Transition pistols.
